SENG Model Parent Group in San Jose Spring 2017
Supporting the Emotional Needs of the Gifted is a forum for parents to discuss how the ideas from James Webb’s book Parent’s Guide to Gifted Children apply to our families. This will be facilitated by Marté Matthews, MA, MFT, a certified SENG Model Parent Group facilitator who is also a parent and a licensed family therapist. The Spring 2017 session will be 8 weeks long, starting February 6, held every Monday at 6:30pm. For more information, find the flyer here.
Student to Student Conference – Information for Spring 2017 Coming!
Parent & Teacher Volunteers Needed! Several times throughout the school year, our local GATE advocates meet to help in planning & fund-raising for our annual event, the Student-to-Student Conference, held at U.C. Santa Cruz mid-May. Student-to-Student is presented for students, presented by students. This event is completely free to participants & open to all students who are interested, not only for GATE qualified students. Lyceum of Santa Clara Valley
Lyceum of Santa Clara Valley is a non-profit, self supporting, parent participation organization established by parents and educators in 1971. The mission of Lyceum is to provide after-school & weekend enrichment classes and other opportunities for our gifted children that might otherwise not be available to them. Lyceum also provides an arena for our kids to meet and socialize with other gifted children. Lyceum also offers a weekly social event for kids from several local organizations and meet up to share and play board & card games, even if your family is not a member. Monterey County Gifted
A new parenting support group for the families of gifted children in the Central Coast is forming. Anyone parenting gifted kids in the Central Coast are welcome, whether they are attending public private or homeschool. The Monterey County Gifted is about connecting and empowering thr Central Coast families who are raising gifted kids. This group supports parents’rights to choose the best educational option for their own children, which will be different for each family. Bay Area summer camps combining the spirit of exploration and innovation with art, science and outdoor education. Local camps available throughout the peninsula & south bay for 3 levels: Camp Galileo for Pre-K through grade 5, Galileo Summer Quest for grade 5-8, and Summer Camps at the Tech Museum of Innovation for grade 4-8.
Teaching students how to think, not what to think…CAFPS combines intellectual challenge of creative problem solving with an interdisciplinary study of the future. This program helps students, grades 4-12 develop their abilities in research, critical thinking, creativity & teamwork, using a proven framework for clear and structured analysis.
Because learning good science should be fun! Schmahl Science Workshops provides summer camp, homeschool lessons and after school workshops for kids in elementary & middle school, based at History Park in San Jose and local public schools.
Odyssey of the Mind is an international educational program that provides creative problem-solving opportunities for students from kindergarten through college. Team members apply their creativity to solve problems that range from building mechanical devices to presenting their own interpretation of literary classics. They then bring their solutions to competition on the local, state, and World level. Thousands of teams from throughout the U.S. and from about 25 other countries participate in the program.
Marté J. Matthews is a child & family therapist in San Jose with a special interest in working with gifted, talented and twice-exceptional “2E” students and their families. She is a SENG-model Parent Group facilitator, and offers linkage with resources, parent consultation & coaching and family therapy. The DEPTH icons are language of the discipline, details, rules, patterns, trends, unanswered questions, ethics, and big ideas.
The COMPLEXITY icons are “relate over time,” “multiple perspectives,” and “across disciplines.”
The CONTENT IMPERATIVE icons are contribution, paradox, origin, convergence, and parallel.
The icons have been adopted by the California Department of Education as the preferred method for ensuring that GATE students’ courses of study are rigorous.
